Jermall Charlo: I Wanna Fight De La Hoya, Benavidez, Andrade, Eubank, Golovkin

Jermall Charlo has a long laundry list of top-flight opponents he would like to face.

His likelihood of facing them anytime soon may be another question.

Charlo, the WBC middleweight champion from Houston, took to social media recently and rattled off a few noteworthy opponents he would like to swap punches with. During what appeared to be a heated live video session with his followers, Charlo named a variety of middleweights, one super middleweight, and one former fighter (albeit presumably facetiously) as some of his preferred options.

Charlo has had to field plenty of criticism in recent years for his apparent inability to land a fight with some of the top name sand titlists at 160 and 168, a predicament exacerbated by the fact that his twin brother, Jermell, the undisputed champion at 154, has fought virtually everyone of consequence in his division.

“F— all ya,” Charlo said. “I wanna fight Oscar De La Hoya, David Benavidez, Demetrius Andrade, and Chris Eubank [Jr.]—whatever his name is—and GGG (Golovkin), too.

“Don’t ask me ever again. I just told y’all all this sh!t. I told y’all what’s poppin’. Alright?

Charlo has long been mentioned in possible fights with Andrade, Eubank, and Benavidez, the latter a fellow stablemate under the Premier Boxing Champions banner. His mention of De La Hoya, however, seems to stem from his animosity toward the Golden Boy promoter, who has the Houstonian’s ambition, especially as it relates to fighting one of De La Hoya’s fighters, Jaime Munguia.

Asked about Munguia, Charlo barked back.

“Are y’all haters?” Charlo said. “Are y’all haters? Munguia don’t want to fight me. He a lil bitty ass dude. Bro. Munguia ain’t learned enough yet.”

Of all the fighters he named, however, Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) singled out two-division titlist Andrade, someone he has long denigrated, as his preferred option for his next fight.

“I wanna fight Andrade – Demetrius Andrade—next, so y’all n—– stop talking sh!t” Charlo said. “Y’all n—– in the comment, y’all acting weird.”

“He don’t event want to fight,” Charlo said of Andrade.

Andrade recently saw his longtime promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing end. The southpaw was recently ordered to defend his WBO middleweight title against Zhanibek Alimkhanuly.

Charlo, 32, also had a word for Golovkin, saying that the Kazakh puncher should not be preparing for a third fight with Canelo Alvarez since he believes Alvarez decisively defeated Golovkin in the second bout in 2018; Alvarez won a majority decision. Golovkin and Alvarez are set to face each other Sept. 17 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“GGG Should not be fighting Canelo,” Charlo said. “Canelo already beat your ass. So fight me, now. So I can at least get my clout up. Who else?”

Charlo last fought in June, a unanimous decision over Juan Macias Montiel. Charlo was originally scheduled to face veteran Maciej Sulecki on June 18, but he suffered a back injury during training.
